You may have heard everything there is to know about tanning and all the different ways to tan. Now, one should ask themselves whether they are a tanning fanatic or not. Those overenthusiastic about getting a tan may not know they are hooked. Many of us are fully aware of all the dangers from sun bathing, tanning beds and even tanning booths. With today’s advanced technology and research most people already know what they are getting into. Ignorance isn’t an excuse anymore because these are issues that are often hyped, unfortunately that isn’t the problem. The problem can be two things, denial and a person who doesn’t actually realize they are hooked.
Tanorexia Afflicts People That Are Addicted To Tanning
When a person knows they are excessively visiting tanning booths or beds and they turn the other way when ever they hear about the dangers, they may be in denial. It’s often natural for people to think “it wouldn’t happen to me” until something does happen. Some are ignoring the fact that some tanning methods will make you age much quicker and cause skin cancer. Getting bronze glowing skin is beautiful and very easy to become addicted to but it isn’t worth trading your youthful appearance and health.
Maybe you are one of those people who frequent tanning salons without realizing how much is too much. Perhaps you never feel brown enough. The proper term for this addiction is tanorexia. There have been stories of young women who go from salon to salon achieving the darkest tan possible but end up microwaving their organs. Unfortunately this is irreversible and the person dies tragically. Tanning any more than 3-4 times a whole month would be crossing the safety line.
Take your health seriously and put into mind that the risks can happen to you and the more you are exposed the higher your risks will be. Tanning is very pleasurable and addictive, that is why one should be very careful and wise. When a tanning salon sets a limit, take it seriously because it is for your own good.
