Everyone knows how tanning beds work, you lay down for about 20 minutes and you get up. Tanning booths are different and require no laying down whatsoever. Instead of laying down you have to walk inside a booth and remain standing from anywhere from 8 to 20 minutes. Sounds uncomfortable, right? Because who would rather stand instead of laying in a tranquil setting. We are, after all, up on our feet all day, the last thing we want is to stand in one spot for 20 minutes. Where’s the fun and pleasure in that, tanning is supposed to be a relaxing and soothing experience. Well we can’t have it all can we? Tanning booths might not be as comfortable as tanning beds, but they do undoubtedly give a better tan.

The way a tanning booth is designed it is meant to give the best possible tan. Tanning bed creators didn’t have the insight decades ago about such things as pressure points, inner thigh area, rib area and under the arms. The UV lamps in a tanning booth encompass the entire body from head to toe and because your body is not resting on a bench there are no pressure points at all. This means free flowing unobstructed blood circulation that results in maximum melanin production. The UV lamps in tanning booths are also usually stronger by more than 60% because they use 160W UV lamps instead of traditional 100W lamps. This extra UV output darkens the skin quicker in less time and in such powerful booths your session will probably finish in 8-12 minutes. This doesn’t mean tanning booths are perfect, not by a long shot, it is merely a matter of choice.
Many people look forward to laying down on a tanning bed, listening to their favorite music. But there is a market for people who want to tan in an upright position. These folks are the no thrills, no joking around type that want to get the best tan they can and be done with. If you’re that type, you might have to search a tad bit harder to find a tanning salon that uses tanning booths. They are not available in most salons because they are more expensive and also because they are relatively newer.
Even though people are not yet accustomed to them tanning booths are worth trying. You will have to see for yourself if a better tan is worth sacrificing the comfort of you enjoying laying down on a bench. They might not be for every one, but having a choice between laying down and or standing up tanning is a nice change that will be appreciated by some salon customers. The more choices there are for ways to tan, the better, myself it really depends on the mood. At times I just don’t feel like laying down and getting tanned and this is where a tanning booth offers an alternative, because I can be in and out the booth in no time with a great and even tan.
