Stand up tanning is a relatively new innovation and most people actually don’t know what it is. Who could blame them because seldom do tanning salons stock stand up tanning beds and booths. There is a big difference between a booth and bed. Technically we can use both terms to describe a horizontal or vertical tanning but that would complicate matters. For simplicity’s sake we refer to a vertical tanning bed with a bench and UV lamps as a stand up tanning bed. A stand up booth will refer to a booth that emits a spray for a sunless tan.

Stand Up Tanning Sunless Booth
Faster, cheaper but not quite as detailed spray tan is what a stand up tanning booth will offer. The most popular booth is probably mystic tan sunless booth. This is a design that is usually available in the tanning salons. It’s very simple, the front and back of your body is sprayed with a mist for a few seconds, and you’re done. This is the more cost effective solution to having your body sprayed by hand, which is a more personal but better tan.
Pros: A stand up sunless tanning booth is very quick. You don’t have to schedule an appointment or wait for some one to spray your body. You simply walk in the both, select your desired tan level, and walk out.
Cons: There is debate that the DHA that is sprayed and other ingredients in the mist are harmful when inhaled. Some booths are also constructed cheaply and won’t spray your body evenly. Missed spots is also another downside to using a booth.
Stand Up Tanning Bed
You can read a detailed and thorough article on UV powered tanning booths. To recant a stand up tanning bed is more advanced than conventional low pressure beds. Stand up tanning beds are not all high pressure but they are more powerful because the UV lamps they use are stronger. A person can spend as little as half the time in a stand up tanning bed than one that requires them to lay down on a bench. Standing up also negates pressure points so your body is much more receptive to the UV radiation. Less comfort but a more even tan is the best way we can summarize a tanning bed that you have to stand up in. The term ‘bed’ might be confusing but as we pointed out earlier it is a way for us to distinguish between a sunless booth and UV lamp bed.
Pros: A faster much more intense tan that will cover practically your entire body. Better airflow also increases the chances of tanning parts of your body that have restricted blood circulation.
Cons: Cost more than a tanning bed with bench and is not widely available, so you might have to try harder to find a tanning salon that has one. Isn’t as comfortable as conventional tanning beds because you’ll have to stand the whole time you are tanning.
Stand up tanning is not a gimmick that will wane as time passes. On the contrary, it is a step in the right direction because it offers something unique to tanning salon customers. You should certainly be interested and whether you enjoy sunless tanning or tanning beds you should try stand up a tanning booth or bed at least once. Who knows, you might enjoy the tanning session more or maybe less but you won’t know until you try. It’s always a great feeling to have more choices and perhaps some days stand up tanning might be the better choice.
