Self Tanning Spray

Every self tanning method has it’s appeal, the one method that had a minor limitation was the spray. Usually you would need help to spray areas such as your back. This limitation is no longer a hindrance because you can use products like the SheerTan sunless tanning wand. Such a contraption is really useful because you can use it with a self tanning spray to reach places that were otherwise a little difficult. Even without a wand you can still use a self tanning spray effectively by reading our tips below, but make sure you read the before and after steps on our spray tan page before doing anything.

Self Tanning Spray Tutorial

The following technique for practical reasons uses a secondary person that applies the spray on the person getting the tan. This technique should be adjusted accordingly if you self tan your self.

  • Step 1: Choose a spot to use the spray. Keep in mind that aerosols can stain rugs, carpets, and surroundings. Place a towel or newspapers on the floor, if however you are spraying your own body then it might be more convenient to apply the spray in the shower or bathtub.
  • Step 2: Spray long even downward strokes on your legs with the spray bottle about 8 inches away from the skin. Start from the top and work yourself down. Avoid spraying too much on the knees (the same applies to elbows and other thicker skin parts). Make sure to cover the inner leg and also the back of the legs.

Tip: The crease of the bottom of the buttocks can be covered by simply bending forward and spray the crease as well.

  • Step 3: Use the same downward spray strokes to spray the front of your torso and back. The arms should be extended in a wingspan position and sprayed horizontally and not vertically like you have been doing so far. Avoid spraying the hands directly, a little residue mist from spraying your arms should lightly fall on the back of the hands.

Tip: Remove any jewelery and also any body piercing jewelery as they might stain and interfere with an even tan.

  • Step 4: The neck needs a short quick downward stroke. Self tanning face requires even a more subtle touch and you can do this by spraying the face in a quick downward zig zag way. Make sure you hold your breath whenever spraying the face so you don’t inhale the fumes.
  • Step 5: Reapply the self tanning spray every three days to maintain the rich beautiful tan.
