The face is the icing on the cake when it comes to your new tan. Most people can’t see your tanned body underneath the clothes but everyone will see your face. Self tanning the face needs to be flawless and you can accomplish this by using the right product and the right technique. You can use a spray, towels, mousse or lotion. The spray is self explanatory, you hold your breath and you spray your face. Spraying on the face is not something that I do, I prefer a facial tan that is detailed because emulating a natural tan requires a little more effort than spraying your face for a few seconds with your eyes closed. The face needs close attention and it also needs a product that is specially made to deal with self tanning face.
Areas Of The Face When Self Tanning
What’s Better For Self Tanning The Face? Sprays, Lotions, Mists, Mousse or Gel!
It’s a luxury to have so many options. Self tanning spray on products are quick, easy and they do an okay job. The detail won’t be there though and the best use for using a spray on to self tan your face is for maintenance and touch ups. A good tip is to use a self tan product on your body and let a friend or better yet a pro apply a spray to your face. The most preferred products for self tanning face are lotions and creams. They are made with the face in mind because the face is gentler than the rest of the body and these products take this into account. A good facial self tanner will also have anti-aging properties as well as moisturize your skin.
Instructions For A Great Facial Tan
Irregardless of the product, the most important step is what you do to your face before tanning it. The very first step is to wash your face thoroughly. Remove any make up, and make sure it is not oily. The second step is to exfoliate your facial skin. You have to repeat this step until you are sure that your face is exfoliated completely. There are people who are puzzled by this step and think it is overkill. This couldn’t be more wrong because all self tan products tan the top layer of your facial skin. Skipping over the exfoliation process might give you a tan that looks horrendous. The top layer of the skin are dead skin cells, some are newer and some are shedding. Exfoliating the face will make these dead skin cells even, hence when you apply a self tanner it will go on smoothly, giving you an even face tan.
Lighter Under/Above Lips & Ligher Under Eyes. The Way It Should Be Done.
Think of the face as having five areas. The forehead area, right cheek area, left cheek area, chin and jawbone area and the nose. There are some areas of the face that should not use too much lotion, these areas are the top of the lips, the bottom of the lips, under the eyes, and also the nose. The face will look weird and if they are too dark they will make you look older, especially underneath the eyes. Take the amount recommended for you specific product and divide it in three parts. Use an equal amount in areas, 1, 2, and 3 of the face. The nose (area 5) should use half of what you used for the other areas of your face. Area 4, your chin and jawbones should not use any gel at all, you will instead tan it by massaging the gel from areas 2 and 3. Use the equal amount of gel and massage it gently in a circular motion in the respective areas of your face. The nose should be massaged on all side and towards the chin. You can remove any mishaps by quickly using a wet towel to remove the gel.
The idea is to massage each area separately and eventually massaging your entire face. That’s all there is to it, applying a gel or lotion evenly is the wrong way to go about it. There are some parts of the face that should look lighter than others. A self tanning face product that you feel comfortable with and gives you the desired results should be the one you use routinely. You’ll eventually get very good at knowing exactly how much lotion to use, after your tan sets, you can even do a little touch up if necessary but use just the tiniest amount of lotion when touching up.
